CCTV surveillance cameras paired with automated enforcement software are reducing dependence on manual policing. Real Projects Already Underway
Several Indian cities are putting these technologies into practice. Gurugram is rolling out around 380 ANPR cameras across 23 major junctions, covering roughly 40 kilometres of busy roads, in a joint initiative between the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and district police, supported by Maruti Suzuki India. In Pune, authorities have launched a satellite-based Intelligent Traffic Management System designed to integrate signal control across 503 junctions, alongside a modern command and control centre. Cities like Chandigarh and Pimpri Chinchwad are also using AI-powered systems to detect violations and support real-time urban governance.
